The Mysterious Look?
What is the Look? Seriously, no one really knows, it changes frequently, varies from location to location and depends upon the type of modeling assignment involved. You could have the right look for one type of modeling job but not the right look for another. At any rate, this is not something you should worry about too much either because if you are determined and fortunate, you will find the job, agency, or location that is looking for your look. Of course, if after several years of looking you can find no one who is looking for your look, you may want to consider looking into another line of work. The last statement is not meant to be callous, flippant, or cute, but it illustrates how mysteriously the entire system works. Unfortunately, there is some degree of luck involved or at least to the point of just being at the right place at the right time with the right look.
What are your options? What if you are short? What if you have a stunning face but have some problem areas elsewhere? What if...
Many people only think of the traditional types of modeling jobs or the most visible and famous types of models. There are runway models (the tallest kind), fitness models, body part models, big girl (and guy) plus models, tradeshow models, TV and Video models, commercial retail models, advertising models, bathing suit and bikini models, magazine models, newspaper print models, fashion models, make-up models, hair styling models, mature models, art models, nude models, tradeshow models and more. Some of these divisions do not require you to be young or tall, although the majority of them most often demand a considerable degree of beauty...but not always! The requirements are somewhat different for men and some assignments may be looking for an alternative look that has nothing to do with beauty. Height is usually not an issue for body part models (legs, hands, feet, faces, etc.) or in some TV, Movie, or Video assignments. Again, this is part of being flexible because if you expand your horizons and utilize your best features, more career options and opportunities will likely present themselves.
