Modeling and the Internet What does the internet have to do with modeling? Actually nothing in the traditional sense. In most instances, modeling agencies will not hire you over the internet, at least not until they have seen your pictures and then seen you in person. There are thousands of models posted all over the world wide web but almost all models originate from modeling agencies, agents, or photographers. There is an insatiable demand for pictures of young females for internet websites, but again most of these are bought and sold from modeling agencies, photographers, and large clearinghouses who either take their own pictures or buy them in mass from various sources. There are free lance models and there is nothing in the rule book that says you have to have an agent or an agency representing you. In the long run, it just seems to work better that way. You can view some of these "model" sites in the links below. However, modeling agencies and talent scouts do not spend hours surfing the web looking for prospective models on the internet. They don't need to because they already have more applicants than they could ever possibly use. There are a growing number legitimate modeling agencies, some internet based, and some land based, who do take on-line modeling applications.
What is the purpose of the internet modeling site? Prospective models do not have to have a model's web site. Having your own web site is mainly a matter of convenience, exposure, and reference. If you apply to a modeling agency on-line, this is often a matter of convenience and sometimes almost a necessity. The website does give you some additional exposure and a place to post your picture portfolio that is easily accessible to modeling agencies and talent agents. You can build your own website, have someone else build it for you, or post to various free sites. Be cautious with the last option. There are scads of sites on the net that advertise free posting for models but many of them have a hidden agenda. In those cases, that agenda is simply to get stunning looking, young women to post their sexy pictures at their web site so other males will come and look at them and the majority of the lookers do not represent modeling agencies. Some of these sites are fairly easy to identify and some are not. If the site has links to more sites involving porn or naked women, this is not what you should be posting to if you want a non-nude modeling job. You will have to make up your own mind about this and do not consider links posted anywhere as an endorsement. You need to see each site for yourself and make your own decision. There are, however, a significant number of legitimate internet based modeling agencies that do the bulk of their work through the world wide web. See also the internet supermodel
