Modeling Schools and Beauty Contests Will modeling schools help? The answer is maybe, although the majority of the world's most famous models never attended modeling school. Modeling schools do have contacts in the modeling trade but don't expect a big modeling contract waiting for you after finishing a modeling school. Reputable modeling schools will not make promises of guaranteed employment but then neither will any other reputable schools of any kind. Modeling schools actually present somewhat of a paradox. Many of the major modeling agencies prefer to train their own models and they just might be looking for the youthful naivete, freshness, and innocence that you already possess. On the other hand, if you are uncomfortable in front of an audience or in public speaking, modeling schools have a good track record in training their graduates to have a higher degree of poise and polish.
What about beauty contests? Participation in beauty contests can provide excellent entry level modeling experience. Beauty contestants model gowns, swimsuits, fitness attire, and themselves. Winners and participants may even win some form of modeling contract and model scouts sometimes attend the major events. Although by no means a prerequisite or a guaranteed doorway to a modeling career, the experience can be invaluable and a nice addition to a model candidate's resume. That said, being a beauty contestant could also be no more or less valuable for example, than say another model candidates previous experience as a part-time reporter for a local TV station. Modeling agencies consider a variety of factors and anything you can add to your levels of experience and exposure could be beneficial. One thing to ask yourself is, are you comfortable modeling yourself or just being in front of audiences, what have you done to prove it and what can you do to improve?
